War Time Radio Show

The show was originally written in Charlottetown for Theatre Festival ’99. The first production was based on the history of CFCY Radio, “The Friendly Voice of the Maritimes”. It has since been adapted and produced in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Ontario .

In every production that has been mounted, theatre companies have been encouraged to “make the show their own” by using call letters of a local station, references to local events, as well as places and businesses that date from the 1940s. You will notice throughout the script that there are words appearing in red. We encourage you to change these names and places to fit your local history. Make this production your own!

The jingles and theme music are original, but the other song titles in the script are from the World War II era and are our suggestions only. You can use whatever music of the 1940s that has meaning for you and your community. Please click here to see a sample of what the script looks like. All scripts come with lead lines for the original music as well as complete versions of the public domain pieces. Available for order separately is the accompaniment print version as well as the CD.
